[Philmont]: Summer Recap

The young man out of our venture crew who staffed Philmont this summer came
back last week. Had the time of his life. His pictures were great.
Especially interesting were the pictures of the wayward rattlesnake that
kept coming back to Indian Writings and finally had to be killed. Staff
cooked it up and ate it, quite a change from cracker-mania I would suspect
<g>!

Ryan also gave me a copy of the PhilNews from August 12th to read. It says
there were 20,471 participants for the 2005 season, down from 22,029 in
2004. But still, quite a gain from the 196 participants that went in 1939!
Total backcountry participants now number 800,000! YIS. Mike Conkey ('76,
'02, '04 and hopefully, '07)
