I'd say if I was to schedule a short trek of 7 days or less
(I was *amazed* how many of these there were), I might be
tempted to have our crew bring their own food. More than
that is too much to haul around. However, if I have to add
that detail to our logistics, then I'm not sure it would
be worthwhile to go all the way to Philmont instead of just
doing a week in the Sierras.
Sierras: Much more impressive scenery, tastier fish, but no
program and only 300 miles.
Philmont: Pretty good scenery, great sunsets, great program
but 1000 miles.
Tough choice.
