Some of y'all on here crack me up on Philmont Phood...like you were
SURPRISED at what they gave you! Gang, it's on twenty different
websites EXACTLY what they are going to give you...like, DUH! My
advice, if you find that information disturbing to you, is "DON'T GO!"

"Inedible?" You, my friend, may have been somewhat hyperbolic in your
choice of adjectives, but the food issued at Philmont is most certainly
100% edible. I imagine that your crew quickly picked up on your
"attitude" in that regard. I wonder how well served our youth are when
we impart such attitudes upon them? We ate most of everything they
issued and took more of some things from the swap boxes.

I think the Philmont Commissary does a darn good job.

Oh, BTW, we found the Philmont Bear Bags worked just dandy, and we used
our Wal-Mart nylon laundry bag for the oops bag. We had rain every day
and never had an issue with stuff getting "soaked". If your cracker
boxes were so damp that they fell apart, I'd ask my crew "Who put the
Bear Bags in the pond?" It would have taken a lot of work to get those
boxes that soaked, if you kept them in the original bag they were issued
in, and put them properly in a Philmont Bear bag.

Personally, I'd like to trek with a guy like Pete Swiggum. Pete, you
have a FIDO attitude that would make a trek an enjoyable experience.
What is "FIDO", you may ask? This is a family website so I'll PC-ize
it. In the Army, FIDO means "Forget It. Drive On." FIDO. It's not
sweating the small stuff, it's dealing with it, it's playing the hand
that you are dealt, it's sucking it up, toughing it out, cowboying up.
It's not griping about things you can't change anyway. It's a mindset,
a philosophical bent, that makes hard days easier. Don't like granola
for breakfast? FIDO. Raining? FIDO. Broke your toe the night before
going to Philmont? FIDO.

Try it. It works.
