>To learn about trail and/or hiking food - what one suggest to buy from REI,
or other sporting/camping good stores to get started in these types of
foods? I see it hanging up on the shelves but there is differ brands and
entrees - I don't mind spending money - but I hate to waste it. Any
recommendations for Name brand, name of foods, good, bad, etc, Thanks for
sharing your experience! YIS: Jerry D Bailey

We bought left over Philmont food for our training treks. This allows the
crews to learn how to cook Phil-meals (although the menu does change from
year to year). You also learn just how dangerous hiking in the back can be
after the black beans dinners.... :-))

For personal backpcking trips I have purchased dehydrated foods in the
grocery store for a lot less than the stuff in camping supply stores. They
come in individual serving containers and you just add hot water.
