We actually clean our dishes, thoroughly. That, I suppose, is our
adaptation of the "Philmont Way". FWIW, in about 20 long-term treks I
have taken in bear country (Philmont, Yosemite, Wind Rivers,
Shenandoahs, etc.), we have never had a single incident of an animal (of
any sort) messing with our cookware or eating ware. If we did not clean
our stuff, I would certainly put it up in the bear-bags.
