What goes into "Damn good Chili"? Got a trail recipe? Sounds like it's
perfect for a Bakepacker.

I agree with Mike, we need to teach scouts how to shop in a regular grocery
store for backpacking meals. One of my troop's favorites used to be called
"Damn good Chili". I believe the name is more PC now.

In a grocery store today, we are so lucky. There are lots of items that ARE
cheaper at a regular grocery store and are just as good for use on a
backpack trek.

On the other hand, in 2003, I insisted that we buy PHILMONT meals for
atleast ONE training trek, just so the boys could see the SIZE of the meal
bags and talk about how many of those bags a crew will pick up at one time.

I had shown them photos of one of our food pick ups in 1999, but until they
saw a large pile of those bags of PHIL-Food in person, it just wasn't real
for them.

It will help them think of ways to down size the food packaging, talk as a
group and take out what they don't want, reduce other gear, etc.
