[Philmont]: Best Hiking Season at Philmont?

I am in the enviable position of helping the council to request and arrange
their contingent treks for 2007. We now have to pick dates, without any
input from the future participants. I have been to Philmont twice as an
advisor, both times in late July. Both times, monsoon season. This time I
am thinking we try for a different time period with perhaps a chance of
less dampness. Because of some early school district startings here in the
Denver area, I'm not sure I can do VERY late trek starts (like anything
later than Aug 3).

What is everyone's experience with hiking the ranch in early June? Late
June? When does the monsoon season NORMALLY start/end? I know there can
be snow on the ground and cool nights in early June, but other than that,
how's the weather (generally). I am intimately familiar with the weather
here in the Rockies and I know there can be snow falling in July and
drought during monsoon season, but I am just trying to play the averages.
Any help would be appreciated. YIS. Mike Conkey ('76, '02, '04 &
hopefully '07).
