BOth times I have hiked Philmont in AUG and the STAFF was wonderful. IF
they were burnt out, we never knew it.
In 1999, the crews coming OFF the trail when we were starting on 808 had
been rained on for 10 days straight. On our trek we had 4 days of NO rain
at all, and other days had only light afternoon showers.
In 2003, we had one huge dump for an hour or so, light afternoon rains on a
couple other days.
Rain is rain, and you just never know when you'll get it at Philmont. I
don't think it matters when you go. Rain is part of the experience that all
crew members will remember.
