Well, I replied to Doug in private but will share here too. Why not?
I'd go to the Tooth of Time Traders Online and buy a PS mini-brand.
Actually, they are the same size as the ones used at Ponil, etc. We had
a get together and had every participant bring their leather Philmont
belt, which we then branded. In our troop, people who go to PTC wear
the belts, but only trekkers put the brand on. Our un-official motto:
"If you don't EARN it, you don't get to BURN it!" I take my brand lots
of places and offer it to Phellow Phil-sters to "refresh" fading brands,
or brand their new boots.
You might also order some Phil-food from the commissary and show the
families a slice of what your life was like at meal time. I didn't do
that this last time but will in the future.
We were asked by our CO to do a presentation at their Wednesday evening
gathering, which turned into a parent gathering and social. We had a
display table with memorabilia, photo albums, etc We had a slide show
which the boys narrated, we passed around the Eagles Soaring High
devotionals and the Phil-Bibles. Being sponsored by a United Methodist
Church, they were pleased to see the contributions made by NAUMS, etc.
See if your CO is interested in such a presentation. It builds
ownership on their part and lets them see the tangible benefits that
their chartering accomplishes. Makes up for those times they find a
Sunday School room a bit messy after a troop meeting.
