Lots of ways to accomplish, I assume you want to re-use the bag the dry food
comes in. Can't help there, but we use the turkey bag method. Other than
the turkey roasting bag and the original bag, no other bag that I know of
can be used (the boiling water will go right through most plastic bags).
Ziplocs and their equivalents won't work for that reason. The turkey
roasting bags are larger and won't melt. We use the pot as a frame for the
bag as we fill and stir it. Once done, we tie it off with a twist tie and
put a lid over the pot. If it were really cold, I suppose you could then
wrap something around it, but keeping it under the dining fly was sufficient
for us on both practice and actual Philmont hikes.

Subject: [Philmont]: Re-hydration cooking technique
Dave,
I'd like to know more about your crew's same-bag rehydration method for
cooking. Any info would be useful. I'd like to try the technique prior to
next year's trek. Have you used regular or freezer-style bags when not at
Philmont? Would cozies be useful or unnecessary? Thanks!
YiS,
