[philmont] Philmont Ranger Song Parody

Greetings All,

I thought that I would share this little ditty that one of our advisors
came up with while we were at the Ranch this summer, but first a bit of
background.

When we arrived, the Rivera Mesa fire was still active and all of the
southern section of Philmont (south of Tooth Ridge basically) was
closed. We were rerouted to trek #21 from our previously assigned trek
#28. During check-in, at Logistics, the Advisors' Meeting, every
staffed camp we came to, we were constantly reminded that Philmont was
experiencing a drought, that there hadn't been significant rain in over
two months and that there was extreme fire danger EVERYWHERE.

As soon as we boarded the bus to our drop-off point it started to rain.
It rained on us everyday of our trek, frequently with accompanying hail
and a significant drop in temperature. On several occasions the rain
lasted for several hours - the staff person at Baldy Town told us that
during the two days we were camped at Ute Meadows they had over two
inches of rain. But we're used to it - it comes with the territory when
our Troop goes camping.

Anyway, with apologies to I Want To Go Back To Philmont (the Ranger
Chant), here is I Want To Go Back To Texas:

So there I was . . .

Out on the trail, in the middle of a terrible New Mexico drought - where
it rained every single day. My feet hurt and the mini-bears had eaten
my GORP. After eating all of my Hawaiian Chicken all I could think of
was . . .

I wanna go back to Texas!
Where a drought really is a drought,
And it doesn't rain every day.
Where food is in the 'fridge
And water is in the tap.
Where you don't have to sump;
And have a toilet to take a dump.
Armadillos aren't a threat,
No bear bags, You Bet!

I want to go back to TEXAS.

We considered this as our Crew Cheer prior to the closing campfire but
thought others might be offended.

Happy Trails,

Roy Fisher
