To Douglas Wiss" <douglas_wiss@hotmail.com>

where in Kansas are you from??

I'm originally from Wichita. Have lived in San Diego since 1982, but still
consider myself a Kansan.

contact me off list. I'm always interested to hear what types of
activities/campouts the Kansas troops go on..........................

>Here in the flatlands of Kansas I wouldn't be without my long gaitors. I
>have a pair by ocean research Gore-tex and they are great.when we go out in
>the hitherlands we have a lot of bluestem that is wet with dew or full of
>what we affectionately call kling-ons, sticky little burgers that stick to
>everything everywhere. In all three of my Philmont Treks I kept them in my
>pack and used them quite often they are pretty water proof and keep my
>boots and socks dry and keep the stones out and they go up to almost my
>knees and keep my legs warm to boot unless it gets real cool. As far as
>rain suits I used to have a backpack model of campmor's good poncho but
>after my first trek to Philmont where it proved to hot, cumbersome, and kept
>blowing up around my face on the sides of mountains I got a gore-tex rain
>suit with pants and I take the pants with me. I use my gaitors but in heavy
>rain or cold they are really worth the extra weight especially on top of
>Baldy or Black Mountains where they came in real handy wouldn't be without
>them. Philmont '94 '96 '98 IWTGBTPP DOUG WISS
