[Philmont] Rain Gear & Sleeping bags

I like the REI "Desert" gaiters. Light, breathable, and light tan color. Worked great in '03 and '05. No pebbles, dirt or rain getting into boots.

I love my low gaiters. Keeps the socks cleaner. If you end up in mud as we did one year, it is easy to wash off the gaiters and your boot laces are still nice and clean. First time I wore them I got caught in a late season snow fall and they worked for that. The only downside I see is that they do seem to hold in a little more heat, but I'll take that trade off.

Since the subject has come up a couple of times recently, anyone have an opinion about gaiters? I remember hiking at Philmont in late July in 2004 and thinking that I wished I had a pair to keep my socks dry and my boots "rockless". Which ones worked well? Which ones didn't? Any other concerns about gaiters? Thanking you in advance.
