As a former Backcountry Staff member, I was able to help with many a Rayado
Trek. I will not give out any secrets that would make a trek less enjoyable
to a participant. A Rayado participant will like to hike, a lot.
He or She will see most of Philmont and many of its Backcountry camps. Some
camps will spend extra time with the Rayado Crews on program or give them a
special evening or morning program. Rayado crews will challenge themselves
both physically and mentally. If your son enjoys hiking he will love a
Rayado trek. OA Trail Crew will provide more of a service and leadership
program and Roving Outdoor Conservation School provides more of an outdoor
learning experience. All are great ways for a person to later work on
staff.
That is all I feel comfortable telling about Rayado. Any more and I expect a
crew of Rayado Rangers outside the house with Bear bag ropes. I hope it
helps.
