The best place at Philmont to see abundant aspen trees is the hike from
Sawmill Canyon. Spending a night at Sawmill, well, I think that it is
the most scenic STAFF camp a Philmont.

Subject: [Philmont] Autumn Adventure Question
Back when I was an AA guide, the crews trip planned their itenerary when
they got there with their guide. This is a great time to find out from
the staff where the colors are at the time you are there and then plan
your trek accordingly.
Some great autumn color spots I remember:
Baldy
Miranda
Blackhorse mine
The view of Baldy from Wilson Mesa
Beaubien
Cypher's, Lambert's mine and middle fork area
I took some nice pictures on the trail from Crater to Fowler pass
The view of the Merino valley from Phillips is great
On a side note, my favorite AA itenerary I went on (it was in early Nov
so the leaves were not a factor) was the following:
Cito TA to Cyphers
Crooked Creek
PJ
Beaubien
Crater
Lover's TA
That crew's goal was to not set up a tent the entire trip. Really cool
crew. We got to do some great hiking.
