I would have to agree that Sawmill is, by far, the most scenic STAFF camp.
The view from the Cabin porch was spectacular. I still remember coming
around the corner (well, it was only last month) and seeing that view ....
one of a dozen times or so that my hiking buddy said "how can you not love
this place". The staff put a sign up on the fence out front that says "No
Photography"...

Any votes for most Scenic TRAIL camp?

The best place at Philmont to see abundant aspen trees is the hike from
Sawmill Canyon. Spending a night at Sawmill, well, I think that it is the
most scenic STAFF camp a Philmont.

Back when I was an AA guide, the crews trip planned their itenerary when
they got there with their guide. This is a great time to find out from the
staff where the colors are at the time you are there and then plan your trek
accordingly.
Some great autumn color spots I remember:
Baldy
Miranda
Blackhorse mine
The view of Baldy from Wilson Mesa
Beaubien
Cypher's, Lambert's mine and middle fork area
I took some nice pictures on the trail from Crater to Fowler pass
The view of the Merino valley from Phillips is great
On a side note, my favorite AA itenerary I went on (it was in early Nov so
the leaves were not a factor) was the following:
Cito TA to Cyphers
Crooked Creek
PJ
Beaubien
Crater
Lover's TA
That crew's goal was to not set up a tent the entire trip. Really cool crew.
We got to do some great hiking.
