The first time I carried candy for a crew was on a BWCA trip. Before
starting a long portage I told the crew I had some portage pills
(Skittles) that would give them extra energy for the portage. Then, at
future portages, it was "Mr. Brown, do you have any more portage pills?"
A bag of Skittles or M&Ms has been a treat for us several times at
Philmont after a particularly hard or good day.
I do not see a need for having candy for sale in the backcountry.
