[Philmont] Cell phone coverage at Philmont

There are cell phones and then there are cell phones, also there is cell
service and other cell service.

My wife and I spent last week at Philmont PTC. My wife has Verizon service
and a Verizon service and I have an AT&T phone and service. My wife had
zero cell service while we were at Philmont, but I had very good signal and
service any place I checked while at Philmont. The Stockade and Lover's
Leap were as far I was able to get out in the back country, but still good
signal there.

However, there are some places where no regular cell phone will work. On
the way back home, on that stretch of lonely highway between Springer N.Mex
and Clayton N.Mex I had a tire blow out on me. I found out that the tire
tools that came with my car would not work and the so called lug wrench
that is supposed to operate the jack would not fit it. If another Scouter
had not stopped to help me, I would very likely still be stranded on the
stretch of highway.

Some places only the type cell phones that operate through a satellite will
work. Also, it very likely at time would be nice to have a car that is
equiped with the OnStar system.

The type phone described by John sounds like it would be a nice model to
have.
