I have no experience with the modern version of Chuck Wagon dinner. On my 1970 and 1972 expeditions, however, the dutch ovens were issued to the individual crews, and a stew was made from canned corned beef, canned potatoes and canned vegetables. It was also known as advanced dutch oven cooking (as the "basic" dutch oven cooking was taught by the Ranger at the starting camp, the Ranger cobbler).

As an aside, we were issued and had to carry Philfood for that meal, turning it in at the time we picked up the dutch oven and the canned goods for the program. We loved the program. You bet!!
