Before this thread dies, let me recommend the 4-C's trail in East
Texas's Davy Crockett National Forest!
It called 4 C after the lumber company that used to own the land.

This trail is the longest one-way trial in Texas 21-22 miles rough
North-South. We did it as a training trek this year in 2 days
the first day was 14 miles and the second day was 7 miles and we got to
church in the evening.
The length of the trail and the tall pines are its strengths but it
flat and is almost at sea level, so no altitude training.
I liked it also because I knew I was not going in a circle. This is a 3
1/2 drive from Austin, but well worth it!

Here is a link to a guide book for the Ouachita trails:

is pretty detailed on his descriptions. For those closer to northern
Arkansas, he also has trail guides for the Ozark Highlands trails. You
may be able to find one in your local outdoor store.

I saw Pat's request after sending that last note.
Both the Ouachita and Little Missouri trails (in fact, the entire Eagle
Rock Loop Trail) are excellent locations for shakedown hikes for us
Texans. We will be visiting both in March and/or April in preparations
for our June treks.
I did a write up of our Eagle Rock Loop Trail trip this last March on
the forum (link below). I guess I need to do one on the parts of the
Ouachita we have done, also.

If you're an external freak, you can always use National Geographics. Or do what I do, and drive to the Oauchita Trail in Oklahoma or the Little Missouri Trail in Arkansas.
