Just think hard about every one of those loops that you remove from
your pack. My son did the same thing before our 2002 Philmont trek.
He weighed all of the removed loops/straps and I was amazed how much
they weighed - about a half a pound, if I remember right. However, on
the trail, he regretted removing at least one of them.
