I think the reason they have root beer at Ponil is it has a history of bad tastign water. I remember my Scoutmaster commenting about it from when they first went to Philmont back in the late 1930's. A smelly or bad tasting aquifer remains that way forever if it's picking up the "stuff" from the aquafer itself.
