I make a fairly healthy living installing configuring and training
people on what many consider to be complex computer systems.
I am guessing that 50%-75% of my money comes either from people who
could do the work themselves if they were even slightly motivated or
from a manger who will not trust their staff to do the job.
Hence they pay me very good money to fly around the country doing the
work.
This is not a bad thing for me. It lets me go to AA where John's patch
collection (still not sure he understands what this means) will be made
available in exchange for me helping Susan with his life insurance
policy while Don Roberts and Calvin help my wife collect on the extra
rider they are taking out for me.
What is true is that last year I billed a very happy customer more than
the cost of the entire Philmont AA trip before my return flight even
left the Denver Airport. They were calling me every 30 minutes on
Friday until my cell came back into range. Wanted to be first in line
for my time.
So this is not a Scouts only problem.
Seriously, the number of people unwilling or unable to think has gotten
a lot worse over the past few years. No idea what it means in the big
picture but it is pretty scary.
