There is a lot of bantering about the upcoming AA season. Having never
been on a real trek this is all I know. If there is better it would
surely cause me to explode with happiness, not a mess I would wish on
anyone.
Here is what I think will happen:
1. I travel in uniform I am proud to be a member of BSA and it normally
provides some good conversation. This year I will wear my boots,
blankie as well. The TSA will ave no idea what to think of this and
will pull me aside for special screening. Somehow or another I will end
up with a special story along the route to the ranch. It is my destiny.
2. Calvin and his crew will again raise the Texas flag upside down.
Eventually they will figure it out and fix the problem. It is their
destiny.
3. Susan may decide that she does not need to have John disposed of.
Reading John's writings does not suggest he will do well. Her wishes
will be honored one way or the other. John does not control his destiny
(that may be what is bothering him)
4. Linda Gray's cookies will be a hit. That is destiny.
5. No one will be hungry. Philfood and stuff we otherwise pack in will
make certain of this. It is the collective destiny.
6. As I have always done i will share the blankie with any and all who
want to partake in it's warmth. I do not bring things like tents,
stoves or fuel (read TSA note above) I share what i can.
7. At the last minute Erin (my wife) will call and beg Calvin, John, and
Don to let me live. Dying at summer camp among friends would not be a
bad exit. She would rather i see the end facing a nasty server failure
in a cold white server room. Calvin and John will honor her wishes.
Mainly because the do not want to carry me down and cannot imagine
littering up the ranch with my remains.
8. At the end of the week there will be some leftover food. I will
lobby for as much as possible and bring it home where many father & son
weekend backpack trips will chat endlessly about the trip.
9. We will make new friends, renew old friendships and have a grand
time. Many stories will be told, Many true to the point that you
could not embellish if you tried. The rest will get a healty dose of
glitter to make things shine.
10. I am hoping for a campfire this year. Last year Beubien's lodge
and the weather conspired to stop that .
So that is what will happen. If you want to sneak along we will not
stop you. This is a pretty harmless group as long as you don't get
between us and the first cup of coffee.
