I had second thoughts about my somewhat tongue in cheek post concerning the I.Q. scale and its definition of average as being right in the middle, half above and half below. I intended to add something else but hit "send" too fast.

My father, a junior high school math teacher, when faced with similar circumstances as have been described in some of the "absolutely amazed" posts, would fall back on a New Testament quotation "the poor we will always have with us" and then add his own grace note "and He wasn't talking about people who don't have any money".

I'm sure he still trots that one out at appropriate times. I'm not sure that I haven't done the same (with proper attribution), and I'm sure my brother has as well.

Well, that's all I've got.
