My Troop has a couple of these in our equipment trailer. Useful for minor camp maintenance. Of course, we got ours at an Army Surplus store years ago. In a traditional color (olive drab). Serrated edge for cutting? Cutting what? A stray weed? About the only plus to this item is that it folds compactly for storage.
Sometimes I wonder how many of the marketing gurus at National Supply have actually spent a night in the field as it were. Or better question, how many of them were actually Scouts or are Scouters?
I bet its a very slight percentage. Please note that I am not aiming at Scout Shop employees. Most of those that I know, are Scouters, and do regularly spend time in the field.

Subject: [philmont] What's with the supply division
This is the time of year when the list needs a little shaking up, so, I've decided that I'm going to highlight one of my pet peeves - BSA's supply Division - These guys are amazing.
Periodically I will select a particuarly annoying item, purported to be 'camping equipment' and no doubt something I'll need to deal with at a shakedown event ... This would be the tie-in to this list :-)
This week's item of shame: Item 24309 Folding Shovel, Blaze Orange in color, featuring "Serrated Edge for sawing" .. you gotta see this thing ... www.scoutstuff.org
Sawing what I can only I can only imagine - I'll need to check the latest totin' chip requirements.
This thing is everything we shouldn't be, certainly not the tool for low impact camping ... geez its a shovel no its a saw .... You can ditch a tent AND cut down those annoying sapplings ...
Flame off
Have a nice week-end.
YIS
Jim
