The use of a common fund is considerably more practical than having everyone
trying to pay as they go and placing the burden of collections on individual
drivers, etc.
 
The t-shirt is an issue that makes me wonder if this person has any clue about
the importance of "crew". Failure to develop a crew mentality is a flaw that
places the entire crew at risk. This risk can go way past simple enjoyment of
the trek - it can also impose health and safety risks as the outlyers "do their
own thing" instead of working cooperatively with the crew.
