I agree with the budget and planning of all expenses. I believe it was
stated to have a treasurer who pays all the bills and keeps the expense
ledger in route. On my last trip to Philmont some of the pay as you go were
items were put on a personal credit card, some were in Travelers Checks and
some cash envelopes. Incidentally we have a trail expense to cover stove
fuel, equipment damage etc. any of the unused money in this fund is
distributed at Camping Headquarters to each participant.
Everything came from a central fund collected the previous year as the
Philmont Fee. All of the items spent are necessary and should be thought of
in the planning.
As Coop mentioned you have warning signs of a problem you need to address
now. Once you are on the trail any bickering can make your trek living hell.
A trek should go by "One for all, and all for one." The picture of two
donkeys attached by a rope each trying to get to a pile of hay just out of
reach comes to mind. Without cooperation neither gets anything. With
cooperation the two first eat the pile on the left and than the pile on the
right. By cooperating they were two fed donkeys, if they had continued to
fight they would have been two hungry a**es.
The trek must work together.
