We were very concerned about arriving at Philmont to get early start. In
the past our council has stayed in trail tents or have been lucky enough to
get platform tents on a few trips. This year we wanted to honor Philmonts
request and try not to come in the night before. I made a few calls to the
motels in Cimarron and found a pretty good deal at the Kit Carson Inn.
Their prices are more than the Trail tent / Philmont dining hall option but
within reason. We also discussed setting up a dinner and breakfast buffets
for the meals we will be there for. We will work out those detail later.
Tying up our chartered bus another night for the 2 1/2 mile ride would be
very costly, instead I called Philmont and asked about using their busses
the morning of our arrival. I was told that also would be no problem at a
nominal fee. At the end of our Philmont trek we be picked up at the welcome
center by our chartered bus.
This arrangement should get us into Philmont early enough to start our check
in with enough time to get everything done.
I am now relieved that all of our major reservations are made and we have a
firm itinerary.
