[Philmont]: RE: Number of Advisors

Tom Buesing asks....
... one of our more experienced ASMs, who has been to Philmont at least twice,
said "Even though the materials say you may have upto four, Philmont REALLY
doesn't like it when you have more than two advisors on a crew!"

Is there any validity to this statement?

Comment....
One of the crews in our large (13 crew) contingent last summer had five (with
permission from Philmont) - four were with their sons - and I am not aware that
they encountered any flack from Staff. The key point is that the extra adults
were not taking a slot from a youth that wanted to go - there were a couple
unfilled slots for both youth and adults in other crews. Since it is the number
of crews that is controlled, unused slots in a crew are an opportunity for someone
to experience Philmont that is lost forever.

While I think that three adults in a crew is desirable for a number of reasons,
I would include that third adult ONLY if there is no youth who wants the slot.
