Interesting thing is how different each group is. My crew in '98 ditched all
the desserts after the first one at our Ranger training camp. They all felt
they were more trouble than they were worth so they all ended up in swap
boxes. My trek last summer was the opposite, dessert every night, sometimes
2 if they could be found in the swap box washed down with Gatorade! I
abstained as sweets and I don't get along so considering there were only 10
of us, they got even more.
As for swapping meals, I've seen some groups swap lunch and dinner on the
last day on the trail. This allows them to clean all the pots and cookgear
after the cooked lunch and spend less time cleaning gear in base camp. It
also allows for an early sleep if you are getting up early to hike to your
busride.
