I could not agree with David more on this point. The key to a
successful Philmont Trek is learning and developing your
backpacking skills before you arrive at Philmont and then practice
those skills on your trek at Philmont. Purchase the Philmont food
and practice preparing those items on your pretrek hikes. Decide
which method is the best for your crew. Use the discussion group
to gather different concepts and methods and then use what best
suits your crews. My only caveat would be keep in mind when you
decide which method you are going to use in food preparation-
what is the purpose of food ( nourishment and hydration )
I guess we all bring our passions on our Scouting trail. And my
passion is great food.(:))
