The sumps have screens over them so they are for liquid dishwater disposal
only. Extra food particles get packed into what is called the "yum-yum" bag.
You can get rid of your trash at most staffed camps, so you shouldn't have to
carry your trash for more than two or three days.

Absolutely. Many crews do this.

I can't tell you if Amtrak will still be around that far down the road, but I
hope it is. It is a good option for getting to Philmont. The train can be
anywhere from a few minutes to ten hours late (yes, ten hours!). Generally,
they arrive in Raton within an hour of schedule so that's not too bad. The
Philmont bus will be there waiting for you regardless of how late you may be.\
