To share the load, one person carried the main tent and aluminum poles
and the other person carried the fly and the ground sheet. I use
aluminum tent pegs which also reduces the weight.

This is the 'normal' method of dividing a tent between those who share
it at Philmont. So what about those who by design of the crew are the
odd-one-out having to tent alone therefore carry the whole of tent parts
& is penalized? I will answer that maybe yes & maybe no. Tentage, in
my opinion is crew gear, and as such the "total" crew gear weight should
be considered when dividing the crew gear amongst it's members. The one
who must solo tent (opposed to those who choose to do so for personal
reasons) should not be penalized by carrying more crew gear weight. If
they have a whole tent, they should carry less of other items so the
approximate weight division is equal in the crew.
