Not to get too far off topic from Philmont, but Iıve done a couple of trips
out of Atikokan and my suggestion to you is this donıt plan too far ahead
there are always new routes opening up in the north country. You donıt
have to book them in advance (unless theyıre going into Quetico). Use the
Northern Tier Interpreter (kindof like a Philmont Ranger, but they stay for
the whole trip and are generally better looking yes I spent two years as
an interpreter up there and yes, we had quite a rivalry going with
Philmont), theyıre going to know where the fish are biting and where theyıve
seen eagles recently (not to mention where the fishing derbies are on and
why you should avoid those areas).
That being said I loved seeing White Otter Castle and the Alligator.
