Gee if there was a 19 year old tran-sexual (not homosexual since they can't
join) Venturer on the Trek who could they tent with?
Anyway before we left on our trek this year they noticed we had a youth
turning 18 on the trek and as I recall the ranger suggested he bring his own
tent. I had him tent with is younger brother. Technically he could be
considered a guardian.

WHAT!!! Brothers can't share the same tent? If
father/son can, surely brothers can.
If not, we have gone WAAAY too far.

By the BSA rules, my two sons were not allowed to sleep
in the same tent in
1999 when one was 17 and the other 18. They shared the
same room for 17
years at home and now room together in college but
couldn't sleep in a
Philmont tent! I agree that common sense should prevail
in these situations,
but remember we are talking about the BSA.
I have used a policy for the past 5 trips that the boys
eagerly adhere to.
Each night, the tent mates change. How better to get to
know everyone and
work as a crew. It has worked successfully even around
BSA guidelines.
