I'll offer this as further evidence of why BSA's policy is being questioned
by Scout professionals, volunteers, parents, and Scouts:
What I did not include in the original message was the other rule that the
Venturing Leadership Team from National told us at PTC in 2001. Two
Venturers who were married to each other could not sleep in the same tent --
period. It definitely had to be the same sex in the tent. When questioned
by someone else, the reply was that the walls of the tent were thin and it
would be unfair to the other youth if the married couple decided to go
beyond a bedtime kiss.
As I stated in the original message, not everyone was thrilled with the
message being put forward and some Council Scout Professionals indicated
that they couldn't abide with what was being taught. I stress you have BSA,
you have Philmont, and you have your Council -- somehow you have to meet all
three agencies requirements and agenda.
Troop requirements are clear-cut; Venturing requirements still need to gain
universal definition and acceptance.
