Jason is absolutely correct here. It matters not the geneder. His point
about step parents brings another version into the equation. a Step parent
is NOT a parent.
What appears easy for each of us to figure out for our own situations is
really a sort of nightmare for college age rangers to have to know and
understand and be able to interpret for all groups. It is easy to see where
mistaken idea come into play.
The rangers do a remarkably good job and I've always found that if they are
going to be wrong, they ALWAYS lean toward the safety and well being of the
youth involved.
Would we want it any other way?
I think the answer is obvious.
PS Jason Cotting is going to be sorely missed at Philmont. He has been one
of the stalwarts of Philmont for a long, long time. Thank you Jason for
taking those years away from developing a career and helping youth develop
their lives. You will be repaid many thousandfold for that.
