While I would not be concerned with trekking poles breaking when used for
dining fly poles, one (small) downside is that if they are holding up the
fly, you can't use them on a sidehike (such as Baldy on a layover day)
without dropping the fly. But if you are out of camp on a sidehike, you
don't have to have the fly up.
One upside is that if they are holding up the fly, you are not likely to
misplace them!
