I use the camelback and have never had any problems with leaking. I also
carry at least one nalgene quart size wide mouth bottle with me. I had a
platypus and was less than pleased with it.
I don't use trekking poles, yet, but am considering it. I don't use a
walking stick either.
A word of caution on the walking stick: One of my ASM's always used one. He
got lazy with it one day. Two of us traversed a series of rocks on the trail
without sticks or problems. The stick guy came last and was using the stick
for much of his support. The stick wasn't planted firmly and the bottom end
kicked out. He fell hard and tore his knee cap away from where it was to be.
To cut short a very long story, he couldn't walk, we were in the backcountry
and at the bottom of a two hundred foot nearly straight up trail. Oh yes, he
weighs over 300 lbs. and is about six foot five. We ended up making a litter
and carrying him up the trail to railroad tracks where he was placed on a
passing excursion train for transport to the closest hospital, some 30 miles
away. Needless to say it ended our backpacking trip and caused him many
months of re-hab and pain and surgery.
