Platypus makes a 1.8L version that is nearly square that fits in the top
section of my son's pack much better than my long 3L Camelback. After 3
years the crease at the bottom gave way. Lifetime guarantee - the gent @
REI gave me a new one, no questions asked. I'd consider this one if I
were in the market.
On each of three of our weekend training hikes, a boy managed to get
dehydrated. I was able to ask a boy how much he had to drink, and the
rest of the boys (by this time familiar with the symptoms) would pipe in
with the hydration lecture. It seems a sick boy believes a leader more
easily when all his friends are saying the same thing. Our crew decided
that everyone should have a bladder before we left for Philmont. Each
person also had at least one Nalgene too. Most had two - one for
purifying water, and one for drink mixes. The only problem with that is
that the Nalgene used for drink mixes became a smellable.

Rick - "...a good ole buffalo too"
