Use Granny knots and lots of them. It works.

A clove hitch works pretty good also. Finish it off with an overhand knot.
Then you got two tag ends to tie it to a biner, belt or body as you see fit.
If they are long enough, then tied together they make a good shoulder strap
for short side hikes.

Or two half hitches iffin you just want one tag end to tie it to belt or body
with.
