If you've not tied this one before, step 7 is confusing the way it is
presented here (at least, it confused me). It says "turn down" and shows
arrows that to me imply that you turn it sideways. Those loops are actually
pulled down so that they form the loop around the bottle neck - the one on
the right in the picture is pulled down in a direction that would be
straight down into the paper, slipping it over the left loop. Then the left
one is pulled up from the paper and around to form the other side of the
loop. This is what forms the hole marked with a + in step 8. Once you get
the hang of it, this is actually a quick and easy knot to tie, it looks
spiffy and is useful for a whole lot of things - pulling on the rope loop
tends to tighten the knot further, which is just what you want.
