[Philmont]: TREKS 2002 Distance / Elevation Charts

I am in the process of updating my Excel spreadsheet summary of Philmont
Treks from TREKS 2002, for use by the 2003 Patriots' Path Council crews
prior to the issuance of the TREKS 2003 booklets. I expect that it will be
posted somewhere on the web, like the prior versions, as well.

I knew that the distance/elevation charts and the route maps in TREKS 2002
were all completely new, and just assumed (naively, it turns out) that for
relatively unchanged routes, the errors in TREKS 2001 (which were discussed
on this list after that book was issued) would simply have been corrected.

Actually, I really was hoping that my assessment of those errors would be
confirmed!

However, I see that is not necessarily the case. For example, Trek 29 was
listed as 71 miles in 1999 (when it was #24), 69 miles in 2000 and 2001, and
as 89 miles in 2002. My 2001 summary, which attempts to consistently
compare mileage between the routings, which TREKS does not always do, called
it 75. The only change in those four years was the substitution of Olympia
Camp for Rayado River on Day 2 in 2002 - that would add about 4 miles.
Which means there is 10 more miles to be accounted for on the remaining
days.

I now realize that reviewing the day by day mileage of each trek is going to
take longer than I originally thought. My question is, does anyone know of
obvious errors in the TREKS 2002 charts and maps, similar to those that were
in TREKS 2001? Please contact me off-list, unless you think your message
will be of interest to the entire group. Thanks for any help.
