Carol Anderson writes...

While hiking early in the predawn hours has both its pros and cons PLEASE
make sure none of your crew requires medicine first thing in the morning.

Comment...

While Carol speaks of a specific example, this is a much bigger, more
general one. The Crew Advisors must know (from reviewing each crew
members Philmont Medical) the medical conditions of each member. If they
are on medication, the Advisors need to understand what it is, how it is
taken, etc. through discussing it with the individual and parents (if
necessary). Same thing with physical conditions (our sister crew in '99
had one boy with an artificial leg - it didn't keep him off the trail, but
I'm sure that at least a modest accomodation).

It's just one more thing in the whole matrix of things that go into the
crew's making the plan for the next day's hike. They all have to be
considered.

P.S. Please, PLEASE, send messages in PLAIN TEXT (not HMTL) and cut out
anything from prior messages that aren't needed for context of your reply.
Digest mode yesterday generated four messages rather than the regular
one, becuase John's long post (which was in duplicate in the first place
because it was HMTL) was included in it's entirety in many of the
subsequent responses. I appreciated reading it once but scanning past it
I don't know how many times to get to the next message in the digests was
a real pain.
