Re: [Philmont]: RE: Fold and roll or "stuffit"?

One last set of comments before I join the riot on the road:

I suspect that other than personal preference, folding and rolling
versus stuffing just isn't that important. What is?

* Never put a tent away wet (or even damp) - most critical.

* Never let your tent stand in bright sunshine for extended periods -
next most critical.

* If your tent get sandy or dirty, clean it - next most critical.

* Store your tents loosely, and with stuff sacks open to allow air to
pass over it - last most critical.

Or to put it another way, if you store your tents wet, or dry them in
the bright sun for a month, or put them away filthy, or jam them into an
air-tight footlocker or box, well, you won't have to ever worry about
seam wear or failure, cause your tents won't live long enough to ever
get to that point. I would like to think that everyone knows these
things (i.e., basic tent care), but based on my personal observations of
a fair number of local Scout Troops - who typically turn over their tent
inventory about every 5 - 6 years - apparently not! I hope things are
better elsewhere....

Merry and Happy and all that....

- Dr. Bob
