I used an Atkins-like low carb diet (Quick Weight Loss) to shed about 30 pounds from 210 to 180 between December 2002 and July 2003. Given my level of exercise at Philmont, I did not find I gained or lost any additional weight during my time on the trail. There are plenty of carbs and lots of fiber in the Philmont "diet." Water pretty much passes through! Enjoy.
