Re: [Philmont]: Low carb

I am a 57 year old type II diabetic who attended Philmont last summer.
I have been very carefull of my diet for about two years. At Philmont,
I was careful about eating too much of the high sugar food. The problem
is, you need to eat a balanced meal to keep your energy up and you can't
avoid the sugar which pervades all their food. My sugar levels went up
about 30 to 40 points but nothing to really worry about. The exercise
and the liquids helped to keep it down. By all means, talk to your
doctor but I am sure he, as mine did, will tell you not to worry.

Steve

P.S. Make sure your boys don't drink too much root beer. We had a
couple who did who spent a large portion of one night in a "red roof inn".

>Ok, I gotta ask; I know some of you reading this have been or are on a low carb diet. I am, and lost 100 lbs. within a years time, and went from a 44" waist to a 34" waist. That was 2 years ago, before Atkin's was a household name. I went on it initially to control my glucose levels, which were at 400 at one time. I am type II diabetic. My loss of weight actually is why I'm able to go to Philmont this coming summer. I have been walking/ jogging and general exercises at home for 2 years now. I guess I'm curious if there is anyone who's been on this low carb lifestyle, who has attended Philmont and how they handled the menus of high carb foods.
