I have Frogg Toggs but have not yet used them at Philmont, though
I plan to do so on my next trek. Otherwise, here are my observations:
I have been constantly surprised at the durability of that paper like
material. It does, however, keep you dry, and works fine as a
windbreaker.
My big problem with the rainsuit is it doesn't compress into a small
package like a poncho does.
If you do rip the material, but don't totally shred it, you could
use your duct tape for a repair, so your 10 days won't be so miserable.
That would, of course, turn it into a smellable.
The parts of Philmont I've been to, I don't think you need fear
getting into a situation where you are at risk of seriously ripping
the suit. I think that very much depends on your itinerary.
So, my conclusion is it should be okay to use.
