I agree. I was 11 when I did my first 50 miler, a lot less than 100 lbs,
can guarantee you that the gear was no where near as light as it is today
and we carried 8 days of food. I haven't stopped since.

I was the smallest Scout in the contingent at age 14 back in 1959. I did a
lot better than many youth twice my size and a lot better than ALL of the
adults. Remember that key point.

 

Size has nothing to do with ability and desire.

 

Small kids are people too.

 

Just take them.
